How prices per blade are computed
The price on the pack hides the number that matters. An “8 Count” box at $28.99 and a “12 Count” box at $39.99 look alike until you divide, and a “5-blade” razor sounds like five of something. This site turns every Amazon razor-blade listing into the price of the same thing — 10 blades — and ranks by that.
What one blade is
A blade is what you replace when it gets dull, counted once however many cutting edges it carries. Every category is quoted per 10 blades:
| Format | One blade is | Categories | Example |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cartridges | one cartridge (refill head) | Gillette Fusion, Mach3, GilletteLabs, Venus, Schick / Wilkinson Hydro, Quattro, Harry’s, Dorco | $28.99 for 8 cartridges = $36.24 per 10 blades |
| Disposable razors | one razor | Disposable razors | $11.49 for 8 razors = $14.36 per 10 blades |
| Double-edge blades | one blade | Double-edge blades | $10.99 for 100 blades = $1.10 per 10 blades |
| Single-edge blades | one blade (GEM, injector, shavette) | Single-edge blades | $24.00 for 20 blades = $12.00 per 10 blades |
| Razor kits | — (listed, never ranked) | Razor kits | a handle with refills: the handle is in the price |
Formats are never ranked against each other: a cartridge, a disposable and a double-edge blade fit different razors and last differently.
“8 Count” is cartridges, “5 blades” is one cartridge
- “8 Count”, “8 refills”, “8 Klingen”, “12 Stück”, “8 recharges”, “替刃8個”: the cartridges, razors or blades in the pack.
- “5 blades” next to razor, cartridge or technology — “5-Blade Razor”, “5-Klingen-Rasierer”, “rasoir 5 lames”, “5枚刃” — describes one cartridge. It is shown in the details and never counted.
- A model’s digit is a name, not a count: Fusion5, Hydro 5, Mach3, Pace 6.
- Inner packaging is not a pack: “100 blades (20 x 5)” is 100 blades.
- Packs multiply: “4 Count (Pack of 2)” is 8 cartridges; “Pack of 2 (16 Total)” is two packs of 8.
Cartridges compare within their system
A cartridge fits only the handles of its own system, so each system is its own category. Fusion5, ProGlide, ProShield and SkinGuard cartridges fit the same handles and are compared together, with a subtype each. GilletteLabs refills do not fit Fusion handles and have their own category. Mach3 and Mach3 Turbo share one; Hydro 3 and Hydro 5 are separate subtypes. Venus Simply is a disposable razor, not a Venus refill. Blades that another maker sells for a system are listed in that system’s category under Compatible: “compatible” is the seller’s claim, not ours.
Kits are listed, never ranked
A razor sold with refills carries its handle in the price — often below cost, to sell the refills. A price per blade would compare a handle with blades, so kits have their own category and are listed by package price only. A blade pack sold together with shaving gel or foam is listed the same way.
What is estimated, and what never is
A count is never invented. When a listing states none, it is listed and sorted by its package price, without a price per blade. A count that rests on a bare “x8” or a lone “8er Pack”, which never says what it counts, is used but marked ~, and “Hide estimates” removes it.
Never estimated:
- a count from the blades on one cartridge — “5 blades” is never five cartridges;
- a count from a model name — Fusion5 is one cartridge system, not five cartridges;
- a typical pack size for a brand or a system;
- a smaller pack scaled up — a women’s “4 Count” is priced over its four cartridges, never as if it held eight.
Where the numbers come from
Counts are read from the listing itself: the title (“Rasierklingen kompatibel mit Gillette Fusion 5, 8 Stück” → 8 cartridges) and, where the product page has been read, the description and product information. Every number read from a product page must come with the exact words it was read from, or it is dropped. A price per blade outside a plausible range for its format — cartridges 50 ¢ to $7, disposables 15 ¢ to $3, double-edge blades 3 to 80 ¢, single-edge blades 10 ¢ to $1.50, in US cents for every storefront — is treated as a misread and not ranked. Electric shaver heads, trimmers, shaving gels and creams, handles without blades, straight razors, eyebrow razors, blade banks and sharpeners are never listed.
Data freshness & countries
Prices are refreshed weekly for each of ten Amazon storefronts, each a separate catalog in its own currency; the date above the table shows the last update. Prices and availability change at any time — what Amazon shows at checkout is what applies.
Affiliate disclosure
Product links carry an Amazon Associates tag. As an Amazon Associate, this site earns from qualifying purchases, at no extra cost to you. Rankings are computed from the numbers alone and are never sponsored. Razor makers’ names say which system a blade fits; no manufacturer is affiliated with this site.
Counterfeits and compatibility
Branded razor blades are often counterfeited, and we cannot check what a seller ships. “Compatible” is the seller’s claim. Check the system on your handle before buying, and take any doubt about a delivery to the seller and to Amazon.
Not shaving advice
This site compares prices only. It says nothing about which blade suits your skin or your beard; how many shaves a blade lasts is your own number, which the calculators let you enter.
