How the calculation works
Cost per shave = price ÷ (blades in the pack × shaves per blade)
A worked example
A $28.99 pack of 8 cartridges at 7 shaves each gives 56 shaves: $0.52 a shave, or $36.24 per 10 blades. Shaving 5 times a week, the pack lasts 11.2 weeks and costs about $11.22 a month.
Why the count matters more than the price
Two packs at the same price can hold very different numbers of blades. An "8 Count" means eight cartridges; "5 blades" printed beside it describes one cartridge, not five. Divide the price by the cartridges, razors or blades in the pack and packs of any size compare on equal terms.
Shaves per blade is yours to set
No maker states how many shaves a cartridge or a blade lasts, and it differs between people. Enter the number you actually get; the cost per shave follows it exactly, so doubling the shaves halves the cost.
Common questions
What counts as one blade?
One cartridge (refill head), one disposable razor, or one double-edge blade — whatever you replace when it gets dull. A five-blade cartridge is still one blade here.
Does it work for disposable razors and safety-razor blades?
Yes. Enter the pack's price, the razors or blades in it and how many shaves one lasts you.
Why is the cost per 10 blades shown too?
It is the figure our catalog ranks by, so you can compare the pack in front of you with the listings there.
